Volunteer Opportunities at Family Programs Hawai`i
Event Volunteer
The Annual Picnic and Holiday Party utilize hundreds of volunteers to help make memories for foster children and the families who care for them. There are a variety of ways to help support Family Programs Hawai‘i in planning and implementing these annual events. Fundraising, gift drives and food donations are always helpful. Groups and clubs are welcome to participate.
Ho‘omalu O Na Kamali‘i
Our new receiving home on the Wai`anae Cost offers rewarding opportunities for volunteers to read, facilitate crafts and activities, and mentor children who have been removed from their homes for reports of abuse or neglect. Additionally, there are many duties and tasks involved in keeping this home running smoothly. Find out how you can be a part of this rewarding opportunity to help children in need.
Resource Family Child Care Assistant
Provide care and supervision for children ages 3-12 years old in a group setting that is safe, nurturing and supportive of their foster care placement. Volunteers donate 3-10 hours per month at support groups. We presently need volunteers for Wai‘anae, Halawa and on
Maui.
Project Visitation
Bring together brothers and sisters separated through foster care to help maintain family relationships by facilitating monthly visits. Volunteers donate 6-8 hours a month, including scheduling visits, pick-up and drop off of siblings, and supervision of visits.
It’s easy to become a Project Visitation volunteer by following these simple steps.
- participate in our volunteer orientation
- receive ongoing training and support
- have no criminal convictions and a clean driver’s abstract
- be at least 18 years of age
- make a 6 month commitment to volunteer
Project Visitation also hosts Camp Connection, where volunteer counselors help bring together separated foster siblings once a year for a 2 night/3 day camping experience on O‘ahu.
Office Volunteer
Whether it’s help with mailing, data entry or special projects, working in our busy, but friendly office can be rewarding. Join a committee to maintain and cultivate FPH services for foster children, foster parents and adoptive parents. Or join a fundraising campaign or project and help us bring vital resources to children and families who need our help.

“I think it is incredibly important to be a volunteer. In whatever way each of us can do it, we need to give back. There are many perks to being a volunteer. You feel warm and fuzzy. You meet wonderful people. Sometimes you create relationships that will last a lifetime. Sometimes you meet wonderful people who will be in your life forever, because they made it possible to meet your daughter. I mentioned
Linda Santos in my adoption post. She is the amazing woman who literally changed my life forever. Linda asked me to help her with a project that is near and dear to her heart. Since I would do ANYTHING for Linda, I jumped on board when she said that they needed artwork for a new receiving home, Ho`omalu O Na Kamali`i, for children in foster care.” Susan Szabo, Artist and Adoptive Mom
